Santa Barbara Beautiful celebrated its 50th year of honoring locals who beautify our city. The event took place at the Hahn Hall Music Academy of the West, a past SBB award recipient and a sublime location for the special event. The celebration was a momentous time filled with appreciation for those who help create and enrich Santa Barbara’s unique beauty and charm.
Young Construction is honored to have been part of SBB’s golden anniversary and to have been presented with the Hugh Petersen Award for Art in Public Places, acknowledging the Anacapa Project Gates located on the 00 Block of East Yanonali Street. The recipients for this award included:
Principal Artist – Project Designer Anthon Ellis, AB Design Studio, Inc.
Project Developer – Katie and David Hay, Central Coast Real Estate
Project Architects – Clay Aurell and Josh Blumer, AB design Studio, Inc.
Project General Contractor – Bob Young, Young Construction
Project Manager – Ted Bruckner, Young Construction
Project Superintendent – Rick Musmecci- Young Construction
Artist Group Coordinator – Calico Brown, Visual Arts and Design Academy (VADA)
Lead Artists – Michael Matheson and Chelsea Locatelli, Visual Arts and Design Academy (VADA)
The Anacapa Gates are located in the hip and contemporary heart of the Funk Zone. The Gates consist of six murals fastened to corrugated steel gates and well integrated with the building’s décor and overhangs, and down lighting that illuminate the walkway at night. The murals captivate passersby and cultivate Santa Barbara’s eclectic and creative sub-culture.
Thank you Santa Barbara Beautiful for including us in your organization’s wonderful milestone!
